The Monika outside the game can only watch the story repeat itself, unable to make any lasting changes from her end. So, while she might still be sentient she has no memory of her future actions. The one outside can be identified by what you learn from the “hidden content” while the version within the game seems anchored to a specific point in time. The one that exists within the context of the game and the one that exists outside the game. (Spoiler as it goes into the hidden content.) To add to this, my theory for Monika being sentient, yet unable to alter her decisions for subsequent playthroughs: So, which of these do you choose to believe is the “True” ending? It might be too late for Monika to prevent Sayori from suffering this fate, but at least she might prevent Natsuki or Yuri from also being cursed. There is only an empty, lonely, possibly eternal fate that lies beyond the game being “turned off”. It’s not just a game to her, there is no willpower that can save her mind from being eventually broken by the nightmarish circumstances of the static void. This is the unavoidable fate that awaits Monika since she’s not even allowed to die when her CHR is deleted and the thing that terried her from the start. Doomed to lose her sense of self to the bright, maddening noise of the static void since she is still cursed with being Club President. However, if you choose to believe the game isn’t deleted then Sayori is trapped in the static limbo, unable to move, breath, sleep or even die. This is the only way this ending can make sense when we get more DDLC content. So, after the credits are finished Monika still deletes the game, evidenced by the fact that trying to load the game still sends you to Dans letter, the same thing that happens when Monika deletes the game in the Normal Ending. Monika didn’t know it was the role of being Club President that forced sentience upon whomever is passed the mantle or she wouldn’t have restarted the game. On one hand, without Sayori going mad with power Monika doesn’t have to step in and allows the player to have this “Happy Ending” before she deletes the game to hopefully prevent the others from also suffering the fate that lies before her. The Alternate Ending is either the same result as the Normal Ending, or it’s far, far worse. So, don’t read it if you want maintain this tunnel vision. You obviously already know the story, but it’s easy to overlook the below information if you really want to think there’s a happy ending to this game. It told me to reinstall the game, which I did, and when I got back in, it told me the same thing.
